How to Walk through Your Red Sea

I
f you see the Red Sea in front of you, won’t it seem like the silliest thing to do to expect to walk on dry land through it?

Walking through the Red Sea on dry land does sound like a crazy idea. However, just like so many wonderful, incredibly, seemingly impossible things that can happen once God steps into picture, this one — walking through the Red Sea on dry land — is not an exception.

History has this story covered. After 400 years of slavery, the Israelites believed that God was going to free them from slavery and that their time to leave Egypt had come (Exodus 15).

Now, I want you to think very carefully about the next sentence you are about to read, because it’s important that you get it immediately.

“The only way to leave Egypt behind was to walk through the Red Sea in front, on dry land.”

The Red Sea is a massive body of water. You don’t walk into a massive body of water (or in-between). The only logical outcome is drowning.

But don’t we have a Father who has the incredible power to create possibilities out of obvious impossibilities? With the power of God, if the Red Sea stands in-between you and your purpose, you can definitely walk through it, on dry land. I’ll repeat that: even when you can see the Red Sea right in front of you, you CAN indeed walk on dry land…right through the middle. Split, splat!

As you’re reading this, you may be thinking about your own “Red Sea.” Your “Red Sea” may be an obstacle that is so obviously on your path to achieving something. Don’t be afraid, darling. To fulfill God’s purpose for you, there’s no other option but to walk through that Red Sea on dry land. Yes, I said “dry land.” If it has happened in history, why do you think it won’t happen for you?

I want to encourage you today.

Here are three proven ways to walk through that “Red Sea”:

1. Ditch Your Fear

Fear is a intruder and a thief. It comes when no one is looking and it takes away your faith. Faith in God is the security against fear. When fear meets faith, there is nothing it can do. When the Israelites looked behind them, they saw the Egyptians advancing closer. They were deeply afraid, but they had to ditch that fear and focus on what was in front of them.

This is what Moses said to them when he saw the fear in their eyes,

“Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see again no more forever. The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.”

Standing still to see the salvation of the Lord (before it happens) will help you ditch your fear. Knowing the Lord will fight for you will help you ditch your fear.

2. Stretch Out Your Hand

In Exodus 15, God told Moses to stretch out his hand over the water before they could even see the dry land. There’s just something about stretching out your hand in faith.

Stretched in the forward direction, your hand indicates that you are reaching forward toward a goal. If your hands are by your side, it means that you are not ready for what’s about to happen. Or that you don’t believe. It’s truly an act of faith to stretch out your hand. In our context of Proverbs 31, stretching out your hand can simply be you saying, “Yes, I can do this.”

3. Now, Walk

Walk! Begin to put one foot in front of the other. See, your dry land has formed. This is the fun part. A time to actually take steps. No, stop talking about it. Just do it. No, stop debating the possibilities; if God has said you should go, then you should just go.

Faith is not giving attention to fear, and walking is an act of that faith.

It’s only when you ditch your fear, stretch out your hand, and finally START walking that you will find victory in Christ.

Is there something you know in your heart that God has revealed to you that you will accomplish? You can do it! I pray that your heart will be strengthened and that you will know that the Red Sea in front of you is nothing compared to the power of God working on the inside of you.

    • Definitely, Faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen. Faith shows that we trust in our Father whose abilities are way beyond ours. Thanks, Bunmi 🙂
